Bark’n Good Times at the Harrison County Fairgrounds

The Gulf Coast dog breeding community and beyond got together for a 100-yard dash at the Harrison County Fairgrounds over the weekend.

Bark’n Good Times at the fairgrounds lasted from Friday to Sunday. The timed dash, called a fast cat, gave competitors a shot at going to nationals in Orlando, Florida.

Not all dogs in the competition Saturday were pedigree athletes, some owners brought their four-legged companions to let them have fun chasing the lure.

Carl Grotton, publicity chair for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Kennel Club, said the activity strengthens the bond between dogs and owners. “We’re not forcing any of these dogs to do it. As you can see, we have dogs from small terriers all the way up to large Newfoundlands, and Siberians — you know, they do it strictly for the fun of it.”
