Bank Robbery in Long Beach Turns Into High Speed Pursuit

Friday afternoon, a bank robbery in Long Beach turned into a high speed pursuit ending in Gulfport with the capture of two suspects.

The pursuit could have turned deadly when the suspects began shooting at a civilian from their S.U.V. Long Beach Police Chief, Wayne McDowell, described the dramatic scene of the chase.

An eyewitness says, “One minute I’m just sitting on the couch with my dog and cat, and the next I’m hearing somebody saying, ‘Get on the ground.’ I get up and go to the nearest window I have access to, which is my bedroom, and I see cops with full tactical gear running across my yard, their guns aimed at something, so I open up the screen and stick my head out and I see over there in my neighbor’s yard, there’s like five, six, I don’t know maybe more cops pinning this guy to the ground. Some of them have guns trained on him and others just pinning him down, putting the cuffs on him. He’s just screaming.”

Both suspects have been transported to local hospitals to be treated for unknown injuries. Click on the video at left to view our live report on the robbery.
