Ocean Springs Band Hall Named After Former Director
The new name of Ocean Springs’ band hall is music to the students’ ears.
Kids and staff members gathered at the high school to honor former band director Joe Cacibauda, better known as Mr. Joe. Mr. Joe worked over three decades at Ocean Springs High School. He retired last June and the school dedicated the band hall to the beloved music instructor.
Even though Mr. Joe does not toot his own horn, students were not afraid to brag about the former band director. Band member Allie Randall said, “When I got to high school band camp, I realized this is what music is about. It’s about working hard to achieve your dreams and to become a better musician. Now, because of Mr. Joe, I have auditioned for so many bands and I’ve just improved so much as a musician and now I’m actually considering music as a career because of him.”
“I’m just honored, humbled. I just, it’s a great feeling to turn around and see, you know, what you did for the last 31 years,” said Mr. Joe.
When Mr. Joe first started as the band director there were less than 40 students in the ensemble. Today, there are over 300 students in the Ocean Springs High School band.
