Backpack Giveaway for local students in Moss Point

Today from 4 p.m. until all supplies were gone, Unity Funeral Home and Cremation Service donated over 300 backpacks and school supplies at St. Paul United Methodist Church to giveaway to children in Moss Point.

For the last four or five years, excluding last year due to COVID and virtual learning, the funeral home has donated items and contributed to the success of students getting back into the classroom.

Children grades K through 12 participated, choosing the backpack of their preference. Free snowballs were also provided. Unity Funeral Home Funeral Director Joseph Fairley said, “This is our commitment to service, giving back. Families have been using us for quite some time and this is just a way to give back to them and also the community as well. We’re just happy to have this opportunity once again. We know everybody has been going through so much and this is just a great opportunity.”

The backpacks are filled with notebook paper, pencils, pens, highlighters, glue sticks, and liquid glue.
