Backpack Blessings bake sale

The Harrison County Circuit Courthouse turned into a bakery this morning.

Volunteers dropped off dozens of sweet treats to take part in the Harrison County Circuit Court’s annual fundraiser. The funds raised during the donation-only bake sale will go towards ‘Backpack Blessings’ which is a service that provides weekend and holiday meal packs to students receiving free or reduced-price school meals.

They’re also taking non-perishable food donations to be added to the backpacks. Harrison County Circuit Clerk Connie Ladner said, “In addition to what we are doing, the donations have also gone to help the children at Christmas time provide them with a gift, a happy at Halloween, Easter, during summer break just so that they know they are special throughout the year.”

The bake sale runs until 5 and then will start up again Tuesday at 8 a.m. and go on as long as items last.
