Back The Badge Act Of 2017
While a “Blue Lives Matter” bill has already passed the Mississippi senate, the house is debating a separate bill that would enhance penalties for crimes committed against law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency responders.
House Bill 645 is referred to as the “Back the Badge Act of 2017” and while representatives debated the measure, they have not voted on it.
Many republicans say it’s needed, while some African American lawmakers feel it ignores the problem of law enforcement officer’s hurting innocent civilians.
If the bill does not come up for vote before the Thursday deadline or if it fails, the house will still debate the senate’s “Blue Lives Matter” bill.
