Baby Pelicans wash ashore from Tropical Storm Cindy

More than 20 baby pelicans are being nursed back to health after washing up along the beaches from the storm.
Calls were made to the Wildlife Care and Rescue Center when baby brown pelicans started to show up ashore in Pass Christian and Waveland.
Rescue volunteers say the winds from Tropical Storm Cindy forced the pelicans out of their nests on the barrier islands. Wildlife Care and Rescue Center Director Alison Sharp says 25 pelicans were picked up since Thursday. “Some of them had injuries that they have sustained from the really high winds, breaking their wings and stuff. A couple of them had to be put to sleep. Some of them were just so exhausted they passed away within the few hours of us picking them up.”
Eight of the pelicans were taken to the environmental center in Mobile yesterday. Rescue volunteers are now working to send the rest to a wildlife center in Houston. Volunteers are urging beach goers to call the center at 228-669-2737 if more pelicans turn up.
