B.R.A.I.N Campaign gives free helmets to students
Students at North Woolmarket Elementary and Middle School went home with brand new helmets thanks to the B.R.A.I.N Campaign.
The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services passed out free helmets to hundreds of students this morning in an effort to prevent brain injury. The campaign teaches kids the importance of wearing a helmet while riding bikes, skating boarding, and riding scooters.
Officials with the B.R.A.I.N Campaign tell News 25 falls are the second leading cause of traumatic brain injuries. B.R.A.I.N Program Coordinator Allison Lowther said, “You just need a little extra protection on your head for your brain. That is what we emphasis with the children is that the brain is the boss of the body and if you injure it you may not be able to do some normal activities and we just don’t want that to happen to anyone.”
The ‘Use your Brain Campaign’ has passed out over 130,000 helmets to students across the state.
