Auto and Residential Burglary Arrest
A 12-year-old walks in on a man burglarizing his own home on Old River Road after hearing his dogs barking.
According to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell, 25-year-old Vancleave resident John Herrington walked through an unlocked door and began rummaging through a kitchen cabinet.
Sheriff Ezell tells News 25 deputies found Herrington sleeping in a tent behind his parent’s home this morning.
Herrington is also accused of stealing a handgun and checkbook from his neighbor’s pickup truck. He allegedly forged one of the checks and tried to cash it at a local bank. The gun has still not been recovered.
Herrington remains in the Jackson County Adult Detention Center on a $10,000 bond each for both residential and auto burglary.
