Hurricane Katrina. The Great Flood of 2011. Toxic F.E.M.A. trailers. These are just a few of the thousands of stories Toni Miles has covered in her home state of Mississippi.

Toni's love for journalism began at a young age. She tried to start up a newspaper in elementary school. That effort failed, but a few years later in high school, she worked as Executive Editor of Vicksburg’s Gator Gazette and interned as a reporter. She also worked in the production department at the Vicksburg Post.

Less than a week after graduating magna cum laude from U.S.M., Toni ventured to Washington, D.C., where she worked in the press office of then-Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, but the Magnolia State beckoned her back home where she returned to pursuing her true passion, reporting the news.

Toni worked as a reporter at WDAM in Hattiesburg and then at FOX 25 News in Gulfport. She took a short break from news and worked as Public Relations Director of the Salvation Army in Gulfport, Mississippi before getting back in the news business at WLOX in Biloxi. Toni worked various positions at WLOX, including that of reporter, weekend anchor, and weekend assignment editor. She was among the staff members who won the Edward Murrow and Peabody awards for coverage of Hurricane Katrina.

Toni then left Mississippi for the Lone Star state, where she worked as the morning and noon anchor for KZTV and then KRIS News. She also worked as an investigative reporter, uncovering lead poisoning in public housing complexes among other important stories.

She then moved to Jackson, Mississippi, working as a senior multi-media journalist, live shot reporter, and fill-in anchor at the FOX affiliate there.

Toni has a three-legged Chihuahua named Rocky Balboa because of his fighting spirit and enjoys writing in her spare time. Toni has been blessed with wonderful mentors along the way and she hopes to pay it forward.

Not known for her culinary skills in the past, but always ready to take on a challenge and overcome adversity, Toni is trying her hand at cooking. She’s been told not to quit her day job.
