Attorney General’s Office reviews two South Mississippi deputy-involved shootings
The Mississippi Attorney General’s Office has completed its review of two deputy-involved shootings in South Mississippi from late 2025.
Investigators ruled that the use of force was justified in both instances.
The first case happened in Pearlington on September 14, 2025. Hancock County sheriff’s deputies ended up in a stand off with Willie Carroll of Texas, who was holding a woman against her will. Carroll was killed in a standoff with deputies after he pointed his gun at them.
On September 28th, 2025, a Stone County deputy was shot in the leg by a suspect as he was attempting to serve a warrant. That deputy returned fire and both he and the suspect were taken to the hospital due to their injuries.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations served as the lead agency in investigating these cases.
