Attorney General Fitch urges review of state immigration laws

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to take up a case involving state immigration enforcement.

Fitch joined 24 other states in a brief, supporting an Iowa law making illegal entry into the state a crime.

A federal appeals court struck down that law, but AG Fitch says states should have the authority to enforce immigration laws to protect their communities.

Mississippi passed a similar law this year making illegal immigration a state crime.

Fitch’s office also partners with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement through the federal 287-G program.
