Attorney General clears deputies in officer-invovled shooting in Jones County

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has cleared Jones County deputies in relation to an officer-involved shooting in November 2022.

The state Attorney General said in a statement today that her office has completed the review of the shooting, in which use of force was justified.

On November 23, the day before Thanksgiving, deputies responded to a residence on Riley Johnson Road in Ellisville in response to a domestic disturbance.

When deputies arrived, shots were fired and a reserve deputy, Joey Davis, was injured.

The suspect, 30-year-old Dillon Ferguson, also was shot in a standoff after Ferguson reportedly refused to give himself up and fired at officers outside the home.

He was taken to Forrest General Hospital and was ICU. Ferguson had to have a leg amputated as a result of his injuries, according to the Laurel Leader Call, and was released from the hospital on December 13, 2022, when he was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
