AT&T labor strikes take place across south Mississippi
The Communication Workers of America, also known as the CWA, began their strike this week to protest AT&T Southeast, who they accuse of taking part in unfair labor practices during negotiations for a new union contract.
The strikes involve over 17,000 employees across nine southern states in the southeast region, including here in south Mississippi. Local protests have already started in Gulfport, Gautier, and Picayune and are expected to last until an agreement can be made.
In the meantime, the CWA has filed an official charge with the national labor relations board against AT&T Southeast, claiming management has engaged in only surface level bargains, is not bargaining in good faith, and has failed to send representatives to the bargaining table with actual authority to form solutions.
The CWA has also claimed AT&T has gone back on previous agreements made in bargaining as well as refused to cover certain mandatory subjects.
