Atlas Fights 26 at MGM Park

Tomorrow night you won’t find batting cages at MGM Park, instead there will be fighting cages. Final preps are being made for Atlas Fights 26. News 25’s Katarina Luketich caught up with some of the fighters and gives us a look at what we can expect to see.
Punches, kicks and takedowns are just a few of the things you can except to see at MGM Park Saturday night for Atlas Fights 26. A cage will be placed on top of the pitcher’s mound and you will be able to see four title fights. Glenn Mattina Jr., president and CEO of Atlas Fights said, “That’s some of the best athletes in the region. Come out this Saturday night, support them, support the event and come have a good time. This night will be electric.”
The most talked about fight is a rematch for the welterweight title between Rance Jones Jr. and Robert Turnquest. They fought at the Golden Nugget back in March. A close match and controversial decision gave Rance Jones the belt and Turnquest is looking for vengeance. “I actually had to ask for this fight. I had to go out of my way to make sure this fight happened,” said Turnquest, “I think there were a lot of people that didn’t want this fight to happen, himself included, but I mean, it just had to.”
But for Jones, it’s no sweat. He’s treating this rematch just like any other fight. “I just train to beat the last me and the next opponent. It’s simple as that. That’s it.”
Fans can also expect to see 40-year-old Aaron ‘Yoda’ Williams in action, fighting for the bantamweight belt. We’ve been watching the Ocean Springs native for years and he has no plan of stopping anytime soon. “Just because I’m older, just means I have to work harder. It just means I have to push a little bit harder. I still love the sport. Until I don’t love it, that’s when I give it up.”
From the seasoned, to the up-and-coming, Matt McCook is looking to make a name for himself for the lightweight title. “A lot of guys have made their way on my back and I don’t appreciate it. I’m ready to climb that ladder and make it to the big time.”
There’s no telling who will walk away with belts Saturday night, one thing’s for certain, there will be plenty of takedowns for everyone to enjoy.
You can still purchase tickets for Atlas Fights 26 on Ticketmaster or at the MGM Park box office. Ticket prices start at $22.
