The Arts, Hancock County hosting Mardi Gras in the Bay

The good times are rolling in May. As The Arts, Hancock County is hosting a Mardi Gras Gala on Saturday, May 29th.

Their inaugural gala is to officially kick-off The Arts 2.0 Capital Campaign and to celebrate their new community arts center.

The Arts focuses in developing programs and services for Hancock County year-round and now they have a new space which they obtained about six months ago.

Although it needs a little work, they hope the funds from the gala and silent auction can help.

A Mardi Gras theme couldn’t be more fitting especially considering who used to work in The Arts new studio. Executive Director Steve Barney said, “Carter Church was a famous Mardi Gras designer that would make these famous costumes for Mardi Gras krewes from New Orleans to Mobile and he used to work in this facility.”

Board Member Mamie Hillery said, “Everybody has been so isolated and separated and not able to do their regular poetry and painting and classes and this. So, it’s going to be great to get together and the best is that it’s for a good cause.”

Dress is casual, but costumes and all of your creative accessories are more than welcome.

Go to HancockArts.org to purchase tickets. The event takes place May 29th in Bay St. Louis.
