Artist painting mural of Carl the Rooster in Ocean Springs

More support for the Ocean Springs mascot who was lost to violence last week.

An artist devastated by Carl’s death decided to give his time and skills to make a larger-than-life mural of the beloved rooster.

Cali Rob has created more than a dozen murals across the Coast. He recently began painting a mural of Carl on the side of Lil Market on Bellande Ave in Ocean Springs.

Rob decided he wanted to paint it there since that was one of Carl’s favorite hangout spots. He began painting the mural last Friday, amazed by how many people have come by to see it and even participate.

Many children who absolutely adored the rooster have stopped by wanting to lend a hand in the painting. Cali Rob said, “There’s definitely been a sadness in the air here in downtown over the last few days I’ve been down here, but there’s also been an overwhelming abundance of love and unity within this community.”

Rob says it typically takes about two weeks to finish a mural, but he’s been making steady progress and is hopeful that he’ll finish by the weekend.

You can contribute to the mural on Rob’s art Facebook page ‘Cali Rob Creations.’
