Artillery Shell Found in Local Neighborhood

A Jackson County neighborhood was on lockdown for several hours today, not letting residents in after an artillery shell was found in a yard while a neighbor was cutting his grass.

Early Monday morning a local resident cutting his grass discovered an unexploded military artillery shell on his lawn. The resident immediately notified the Biloxi Police Bomb Squad. Residents were advised to avoid the area and both Seaman Road and Lake Forest Drive were blocked off by police barricades. Military personnel from Pensacola were also requested on scene to help assist with the artillery shell. Residents spoke to WXXV on their frustration on not being able to access their homes due to the incident.

Biloxi police have now notified the public that the artillery shell has been safely dealt with and the area is now safe to return to.

We will continue to update you as this story progresses.
