Arrests made in shooting death of 16-year-old in Gulfport

The Gulfport Police Department apprehended 15-year-old Brenton Brumfield, who has been charged with one count of 2nd Degree Murder and one count of Homicide of an Unborn Child, and 19-year-old Jamarrion Jackson, who has been charged with one count of Hindering the Prosecution of Another.

Two juveniles, one aged 13 and the other 17, were also charged with Hindering the Prosecution of Another.

On April 30, 2023, at approximately 1:21 p.m., the Gulfport Police Department responded to reports of a shooting victim, later identified as 16-year-old Kamori Lake, who was three and a half months pregnant at the time of the shooting and succumbed to her injuries.

Officers located the crime scene in the 4000 block of 32nd Street and Detectives began their investigation.

As the investigation progressed, it was discovered that Brumfield had pointed a firearm in the direction of Kamori Lake, discharging it and causing the fatal injury.

Following the suspects’ booking and processing, Brumfield and Jackson were promptly transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center to be held in lieu of their bonds.

Judge Patano set Brumfield’s bond at $500,000 and Jackson’s bond was set at $25,000. The juveniles were transported to the Harrison County Youth Detention Center.
