Arrests made in death of Gulfport infant

Gulfport police announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with the death of a four-month-old infant.

On April 23, 2024, the Gulfport Police Department arrested 24-year-old Angel Ja’Nai Williams and charged her with one count of Hindering Prosecution and one count of Felony Child Neglect.

On April 26, 2024, the Gulfport Police Department arrested 27-year-old Denilson Marcus Elligson and charged him with one count of Capital Murder.

On April 23, 2024, officers were notified of an unresponsive infant in the 1400 block of Lewis Avenue. While en route, officers were advised the infant was transported to a local area hospital and subsequently pronounced deceased.

During the interview, Elligson made multiple admissions, revealing his involvement in handling the infant, which tragically led to the child becoming unresponsive. Williams admitted to covering for Elligson because she did not want him to get into trouble.

Williams and Elligson were processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center where they were held in lieu of their bonds, set by Judge Patano.
