Jackson man arrested for aggravated assault in D’Iberville

On July 14, 2023 Chief Shannon Nobles announced the arrest of John Jorod Cortez Horton, 23, on the charge of aggravated assault, use of deadly weapon or other means likely to produce death or serious bodily harm.
Chief Nobles said D’Iberville Police responded to the Texaco gas station on Popps Ferry Road on April 16th, 2023 for a report of an assault. Responding officers located the victim on the scene, suffering from serious injuries, and learned the suspects fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and subsequently taken to a secondary hospital for more extensive medical attention.
Upon further investigation, detectives were able to identify John Horton, 23, a resident of Jackson who was visiting the area and was involved in the physical altercation with the victim and was solely responsible for the injuries the victim sustained.
On July 12th, 2023, Horton was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Madison County. On July 14th, 2023, Horton was extradited to the Harrison County Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain and has since been released on bond pending further court proceedings.
