Arrested, charged with aggravated drug trafficking in Harrison County

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- Sheriff Matt Haley announced the arrest of 33-year-old Diego Valdez-Marroquin, a citizen of Guatemala, on a felony charge of aggravated drug trafficking.

On July 6, a deputy from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Division conducted a traffic stop at the 39-mile marker of Interstate 10 eastbound in Gulfport on a Toyota Tacoma for a traffic violation.

The deputy contacted the driver, identified as Diego Valdez-Marroquin, and developed suspicions of drug trafficking. A search of the vehicle revealed 22 pounds of cocaine hidden within the vehicle.
