Armed Forces Retirement Home holds Memorial Day Ceremony

It was a powerful morning at the Armed Forces Retirement Home as they held their Memorial Day Ceremony.

The pool deck was filled with men and women dressed in red, white, and blue as they honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

During the playing of Taps, all eyes were fixed on the memorial wreath as participants took time to remember the generations of fallen heroes in defense of America.

Veterans took time after the ceremony to tell WXXV what Memorial Day means to them. U.S. Army Veteran Bob Rainbolt said, “To remember our fallen comrades both women and men throughout the 200 and something years that this nation has been free and all the battles that they’ve given their blood and died.”

U.S. Air Force Veteran Edward Farley said, “Freedom is never free. There’s always someone that sacrificed their all for it, and we can stand and love America like we do and still have a country to look up to.”

U.S. Navy Veteran Rodger Schulrud said, “It’s remembrance of the ones who died in action over the years.”

Guest speaker Command Master Chief Michael Lopez wants everyone to remember the true reason of Memorial Day over the weekend.
