Are Kalin & Myles Lyrics Too Racy for Ocean Springs High?

Ocean Springs High School recently won a radio contest to bring musical group, Kalin and Myles, to their school, but are their lyrics too controversial for high school students?

The party rap and pop duo, Kalin and Myles, will be putting on a concert for Ocean Springs High School Monday, an opportunity students won through a contest from local radio station, 95.3 The Gorilla, but the newest song, Trampoline, is raising some eyebrows with its racy lyrics: “You turn me on, I like what I see, when you bounce that thang, like a trampoline. Girl this your song, you know you a freak, so bounce it for me, make it go trampoline.”

News 25 asked viewers how they feel about the duo performing and we received mixed reactions via our Facebook page. Parents in Ocean Springs have mixed emotions as well. Rudy Avara, a grandparent of an Ocean Springs High School student, says, “School officials don’t need to let these people in to have a concert at school to sing that kind of stuff. I’d do anything I could to stop it.”

Mary Ross, a parent of an Ocean Springs High student, says, “I think it’s okay as long as while they’re playing at the school, I don’t think they’ll be any problems with the language or anything like that. I think the kids will enjoy it. I think it will be fun.”

Christopher Seals, another parent, says, “We should not let the younger kids hear such things, especially in our schools. If we don’t stand up today, who’s going to stand up tomorrow?”

In an official statement released from Ocean Springs schools, students acted outside of the approval from the district and the school when they entered the contest. Even with that, the concert will still go on Monday. Billy Sexauer, Program Director for 95.3 The Gorilla, says the contest was a way to connect the community by bringing a group who got their start on the children and teen network, Nickelodeon. Sexauer closes, “We were trying to get the students involved and support Oceans Springs and the entire community on the Gulf Coast.”

Oceans Springs schools say so far, only one parent has called to complain. They also say any parents who don’t want their children attending the concert can contact the Principal’s office. The concert is set for this coming Monday, March 2nd, in the Ocean Springs High School auditorium.
