Arbor Day tree distribution at the Lyman Community Center
Cars lined up all the way out to Highway 49 at the Lyman Community Center early this morning to get their oak trees for Arbor Day.
Although the weather today was rainy and cold, the convenient drive-thru Arbor Day tree distribution kept participants dry and safe from COVID-19.
The tree give away was sponsored by the Harrison County Soil and Water Conservation District.
They distributed over 300 live oak trees, soon to be planted in Mississippi soil in an attempt to replace trees lost during recent storms. Natural Resource Conservation Service Supervisor Tyree Harrington said, “We always have a pretty good crowd and today we have a good crowd too. We’re here at the Lyman Community Center, we’re doing double rows. Five dollars gives you all the trees. Through all the hurricanes that we’ve had down here, it’s good to replenish the trees and that’s one of the efforts that we’re trying to do.”
Participants drove away with blueberry bushes, Southern Magnolias, live oak trees, and bareroot seedlings.
