Appeals Court upholds planned execution of Richard Jordan
Another denial for a stay of execution in the case of Richard Jordan, Mississippi’s longest serving death row inmate set to be executed by lethal injection Wednesday.
The U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday affirmed a district courts decision handed down this past Friday, denying Jordan a preliminary injunction and in turn, a stay of Wednesday’s scheduled execution.
Tuesday’s ruling also cited the U.S. Supreme Court precedent that last minute stays of execution should be “the extreme exception.”
