Apartment fire leaves one dead, one injured in Wiggins

WIGGINS, Miss. (WXXV)- A tragic loss in Wiggins as the Wiggins Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire Tuesday evening.

Wiggins Fire Department personnel were supported by the Wiggins Police Department, Stone County Fire Service, Stone County Sheriff’s Department, and Pafford Ambulance Service to assist with fireground operations, scene control, and patient care.

Upon arrival to the scene, firefighters established a water supply from a nearby hydrant and initiated an aggressive fire attack while conducting a rapid primary search for possible victims inside the structure.

Once the main body of the fire was extinguished, it was determined that two apartment units sustained heavy damage, while a third suffered significant smoke damage.

There was one confirmed fatality at the scene.

A second patient was transported by Pafford EMS to Memorial Hospital in Gulfport where they were reported to be in stable condition.

Wiggins Fire Department confirms there were no reports of injured firefighters or other responders from the incident.
