Annual Statewide Youth Council recap
Over the weekend, Gulfport’s brightest young minds went to Jackson for the statewide Youth Leadership Summit.
For 11 years this event has put the future leaders of our state into one room for exercises in effective leadership, teamwork, and community involvement. Gulfport’s Youth Council is in its third year of existence.
Chris Vignes with the City of Gulfport said, “We have an incredible group of kids down here, not only in Gulfport, but across the whole Coast. Our Gulfport Mayor Youth Council stepped up, they led a program. They led the welcoming in front of the entire summit and we’re very proud of them. They did a great job. They worked hard. They’ve been practicing for a few weeks on this and to get up there and watch it execute and be done is perfect. Very proud of the kids.”
Thirty-two kids from the Mayor’s Youth Council made that trip up to Jackson. These young leaders are selected through an application program each year.
