Annual Mardi Gras Golf Cart Night Ride
With COVID-19 causing many events to be canceled this Mardi Gras season, it may not feel like the last weekend of Mardi Gras is already here.
A couple of celebrations are still happening on the Coast though.
Golf carts decked out in purple, green, and gold began lining up at 4 at the Ocean Springs Yacht Club for the 2021 annual Mardi Gras Golf Car Night Ride held by Downtown Cart Rentals of Ocean Springs.
The parade went from Front Beach, down Porter Avenue, to Washington Avenue and eventually onto Government Street.
Due to COVID, organizers required all carts to social distance and no throws were allowed.
Despite new rules and the weather, golf carters showed up in the Mardi Gras spirit. Old Biloxi Marching Club Member Jeff Davis said, “It’s just the spirit. It’s the spirit of living down here in South Mississippi. And it’s just Carnival season– it’s just something that we do each year. We don’t want to let that legend die. And so those of us that want to contribute and continue doing it, we will.”
The parade ended at Mosaic Restaurant and Bar in Downtown Ocean Springs.
