Animal rescue groups need your help
Times are ‘ruff’ for many here on the Gulf Coast, including our furry friends and local animal rescue groups.
Our coastal animal shelters have either closed or have limited their animal intake because of the coronavirus and that’s caused a serious influx of calls to local rescue and vet offices for pets in need of help.
With many people out of work, caring for the cost of pets is becoming harder and more animals are finding themselves without homes.
The good news is there are many ways you can help save a life. Dr. Jason Gulas with Fur Baby’s Veterinary Hospital said, “There’s always a demand for people needing help with their pets. It’s definitely gotten worse lately. Definitely seen a lot of more unowned pets lately, people finding them along the side of the road and bringing them in. We’ve had, I’d say, several cases of people trying to relinquish their pets for fear of catching COVID from them.”
Jeanne Montana with Just Cause Rescue said, “It’s overwhelming. We need fosters. If we had more fosters and more people willing to help donate and help us work with dogs, we can pull more. We can only do what we can do, but if we had more fosters we could help a lot more.”
Just Cause Rescue currently has 16 dogs in need of a forever home. Cadette came to the rescue on Thursday after they received several calls about an injured dog. They believe he was hit by a car.
You can help Cadette and other rescue dogs by heading to the ‘Just Cause’ Facebook page or calling them at 228-365-8031.
