Amtrak volunteers ready to greet passengers next week

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — A group of volunteers gathered at the Gulfport Amtrak boarding platform ahead of the passenger train’s first trip across The Coast next week.

With Amtrak gearing up to roll out its new Mardi Gras Service, volunteers from all over The Coast are preparing to serve as station hosts at each of the Amtrak stops in Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Pascagoula.

These hosts will provide those traveling on the Amtrak with a friendly face to greet as they get on or off the train. The goal is to have these volunteers out on the platforms 365 days a year to answer travelers’ questions and represent their communities.

The response from local volunteers has been positive, with community members looking forward to welcoming visitors to their cities.

Starting next week, local faces will be waiting for visitors at each of the coastal stops. But, amtrack is always looking for volunteers willing to dedicate their time. Those interested in volunteering can still get in on the action by submitting an application.

The Amtrak will make its first rounds on Monday morning to pick up passengers and take them to New Orleans and Mobile.
