Amtrak service on Coast expected to start in 2024
Amtrak service from New Orleans to Mobile, with stops on the Mississippi Coast, is expected to begin in 2024.
While there is no specific date as yet, Amtrak updated the Southern Rail Commission during its meeting Friday morning in Point Clear, Alabama.
During the update, Amtrak project manager Ben Dodson said there are a few items that need to be finished before service can begin.
Amtrak has yet to:
- Sign land use agreements for the Mobile station
- Sign operating agreements with Louisiana, Mississippi and the City of Mobile
- Determine an official name and start date, in conjunction with the Southern Rail Commission.
Once those items are completed, operational service can begin, which is expected to be next year.
