Amtrak and Truck Crash Kills Three in Flora, MS
An Amtrak train slams into a car in Mississippi, killing a father and his two children.
Amtrak officials say the crash happened around 6 p.m. on Wednesday night in the small town of Flora. Police say the 35-year-old father had just picked his son and daughter up from daycare before the collision. The impact from the crash killed the man and his children, ages seven and one, instantly. Everyone in the car was wearing their seat belts.
One woman was right there to see the horrific incident play out. Deborah Armstrong said, “As we were crossing it was just like he was in slow motion and it just like a slow motion things and it’s just hard to explain. The train just hit him and just drug him on down the road. I thought it knocked the truck off the track but as we got out of the car and ran down the street, the truck was still on the track. It was just unbelievable, something you couldn’t believe and I got on the phone trying to call 911 while my sister was coming.”
An Amtrak spokesperson says there were no injuries to the crew or the 127 passengers on board.
