American Red Cross closing shelter in Moss Point

As residents of Moss Point are beginning to rebuild, the American Red Cross is closing its shelter.

The Red Cross hit the ground running after the June 19th EF2 tornado swept through Moss Point. The organization provided shelter and food for many residents, but now moved to accommodate those in need.

Officials say case work has been done for all those who sought shelter.

Although the shelter is closing, the Red Cross will stay in Moss Point another week or so. Senior Disaster Program Manager Felicia Tripp tells us they are not done yet. “Of course, the work still continues. You have many families who have lost everything that they have in this storm. I just see absolutely hope in the midst of the storm. So, we’re here though the storm with our mass care and services that we offer.”

If you or someone you know has severe damages to their homes, call 1-800-733-2767. The last day to register with the American Red Cross for assistance from the tornado is July 5th.
