American Legion Post 119 hosts Flag Retirement Ceremony
Today is National Flag Day as active and veteran service members salute the flag in its honor.
The American Legion Post 119 held a flag ceremony to honor the stars and stripes. Former and active military assisted in taking down the American Legion’s flag and burning it as part of the retirement ceremony.
People in the community were invited to come to the ceremony as well to properly retire their flags.
American Legion member and event host Heather Rose tells us about the flag’s importance. “That flag is freedom. It’s, it’s the military, it’s you. It’s our community. It’s everything that is the patriotism of this world. And Flag Day is our day where we can pay our respects to that flag and by being able to burn it and give it the proper burial and respect that it deserves. We can see great reverence and create awareness in the community.”
