Alvin Kamara impressing Saints legends

With Saints running back Mark Ingram suspended the first four games of the 2018 regular season, reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Alvin Kamara is going to have some big shoes to fill.

If last year was any indication, then the second-year standout should be up to task, having finished second in total touchdowns, third in all-purpose yards, and sixth in yards from scrimmage.

Those numbers are cause for lofty expectation in Kamara’s encore campaign and he’s already drawing rave reviews from former Saints legends Willie Roaf and Pierre Thomas. Roaf said, “The mix and styles of running would have been great, and that’s what’s going to make them so dangerous. They’re going to be able to run the ball effectively and take the pressure off Drew Brees and not have to pass it so much, so that’s going to make them real dangerous.”

“I mean he showed everybody what he could do, he’s agile. He’s like a Darren Sproles mixed with myself, a Mark Ingram, a Chris Ivory, so many different running backs. He has the power, he has the strength, he has the creativity, he has the skill level to be that dominant player. But it’s up to him,” said Thomas.

In 2018, Kamara led all qualified rushers with 5.6 yards per carry. Ingram was eighth with 4.7 yards per tote.
