Alligator hunting season opens Friday in Mississippi

Hunters are getting their gear and boats ready as they prepare for alligator hunting season this week.

The 2022 public alligator season opens in Mississippi on Friday at noon.

During the June application period, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks received over 7,000 permit applications. 980 permits were issued in the state’s seven hunting zones.

Officials say they expect more than 3,500 people will participate.

Last year, there were 776 alligators harvested.

The ten-day season will close at noon on September 5th.  For more information regarding alligator hunting rules and regulations, visit mdwfp.com/alligator.
