Aldi terminates land contract in Ocean Springs
Just two months ago, a new grocery store, Aldi, was announced in Ocean Springs. Now, they’re hitting a roadblock with those plans.
News 25 spoke with Ocean Springs Alderman Ken Papania and he says Aldi has terminated the contract on the land they were originally interested in. This is due to the fact that 90 percent of the property is deemed wetland.
A retail coach hired by the city has been on the front lines of this deal since the beginning and the city is in close contact with that retail coach.
City officials are not sure at this point if Aldi will still build in Ocean Springs. They are working hard with the retail coach and Aldi to make this happen. “Ocean Springs is a good trade area. We feel like it would be a good fit for them here in Ocean Springs to serve an area that serves within a 60 mile trade zone of people who come here to shop. Retail coach is working with them to make a determination on where they want to locate,” said Papania.
