Alabama man dies in fireworks accident in Dauphin Island

An Alabama man is dead after a tragic Fourth of July fireworks accident in the water near Dauphin Island.

Neighbors say John Walter was trying to put on his own fireworks show in the middle of the Bay. He was on a paddle board with a mat attached loaded with fireworks at the time of the accident.

Witnesses say at least one of the fireworks struck him, causing him to fall into the water.

Walter was later pulled from the water and transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Neighbors say Walter had a caring and giving soul. They said he has been doing the fireworks shows for several years now.
