Agricola VFD adds equipment through grant

A George County volunteer fire department added some vital equipment, thanks to Singing River Electric.

Agricola Volunteer Fire Department, 24 members strong, purchased an automatic external defibrillator and reusable safety vests with a Neighbors Helping Neighbors Community Grant from the utility company.

The equipment will help in their efforts to provide emergency medical response to Agricola, Movella, Howell, and Ward communities in George County. The fire department has been serving the area since 1976.

“Last year, we responded to 131 emergency calls through the 911 system including structural, wood, and vehicle fires, as well as medical crises including heart attacks, strokes, and diabetic emergencies,” said Fire Chief Philip Thomas.
