Aggravated assault arrest

D’Iberville police arrested 34-year-old Lon Preston Jr. of Biloxi for aggravated assault.

Captain Marty Griffin said police responded to a reported shooting at Rudy Moran Park Monday night. There, officers located 37-year-old Joshua Smith with a single gunshot wound to the leg.

Smith was treated on the scene before being transported to Merit Health for treatment and is currently listed in stable condition in ICU.

Preston was identified as a person of interest during the initial investigation and surrendered himself to D’Iberville police shortly before 5 p.m. today. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
