Agencies continue to search for one escaped monkey in Jasper County

JACKSON, Miss. (WXXV)-The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks continue to work with authorities to locate the one remaining missing Rhesus monkey.

On Tuesday, October 28, a truck transporting the monkeys from Tulane National Biomedical Research Center crashed on Interstate 59 north of Heidelberg.

The crash led to the escape of eight of the 21 monkeys on board. Five of the eight were recovered at the site and three escaped.

Two of the three escaped monkeys have died. At this time, one remains unaccounted for.

These monkeys are known to be aggressive and the public is asked to avoid any contact with them and should not attempt to approach the monkey.
