AG Fitch urges for stronger FCC rules for robocalls, scam texts
Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch is urging stronger federal action to crack down on illegal robocalls and scam texts.
Tuesday, Fitch joined attorneys general from 49 other states and territories in asking the Federal Communications Commission to strengthen its ‘know your customer’ rules.
The coalition says tougher verification requirements would help identify bad actors before they can use U.S. phone networks to target consumers.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, Americans received more than 29.6 billion scam robocalls last year, resulting in nearly two billion dollars in losses.
They hope stronger enforcement would help stop scam calls at the source and give states better tools to protect consumers.
