Aftermath of the flooding at Sugar Sands Campground in Vancleave

Days after the severe flooding which forced residents to evacuate at Sugar Sands Campground in Vancleave, water levels have finally reduced allowing those impacted to return to their RV’s.

On Saturday the campgrounds were engulfed by floods brought on from Fridays night’s storms, forcing residents to leave their RV’s as well as the rest of their belongings behind. Relief efforts went on throughout the weekend as local residents used their boats to help those affected by the flood.

On Monday the water levels at the Sugar Sands Campground were significantly reduced, allowing residents to return to their RV’s.

The Red Cross was on scene performing damage assessments as well as providing lunch to flood victims.

At this time the Sugar Sands Campground is closed to the public and only those impacted by the flood are allowed to enter.
