African Americans in Aviation Traveling Museum open to the public
After visiting multiple schools across South Mississippi this week, a traveling museum spotlighting African Americans in aviation has landed at the Aviation Heritage Museum for the public to view.
Saturday and Sunday, everyone is invited to see the museum and hear about the roles black Americans played in aviation and aerospace.
Aviation Heritage Museum Executive Director Francisco Gonzalez tells News 25 the mobile unit was able to come to Mississippi thanks to a grant through Mississippi Humanities Council.
Gonzalez says he’s grateful so many people are getting a chance to experience it. “We have taught more than 600 kids who have gotten to see the exhibit. Chauncy Spencer, the son of the man who helped build the Tuskegee Airmen, is here. He’s a spokesman and he talks very passionately about how that happened. So, we wanted to invite the people tomorrow to come to the museum and enjoy part of history.”
The exhibit is free to view with admission February 5th and 6th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
