Adopt-A-Grandparent Day coming up

Adopt-A-Grandparent Day is September 9th and many local nursing homes are looking for volunteers.

Adopt-A-Grandparent Day is the day before ‘Grandparents Day’ and serves a community of senior citizens who are feeling isolated and missing family.

Volunteers are invited to spend an hour with seniors in nursing homes, you’ll share stories, make a craft, or enjoy lunch together.

According to ‘Adopt a Grandparent,’ grandparents and children have a special connection that is proven to make grandparents live longer.

You could possibly meet your new best friend. Treasure Maridane Hewes-Snow said, “So, yes, we will coordinate volunteers for this one day, but with hopes that they will continue those conversations and continue those visits even outside of the days that we organize.”

Founder Kathy Rogers said, “But what they found out is that it changes something inside of them. And so, if we can get them there, to see the situation, if they can back a natural connection, then they can go back on their own over and over. And that’s really how we have an impact.”

Please visit adoptagrandparentday.org to volunteer. There are still six facilities with no volunteers.
