Acadian Ambulance Services provide relief for areas in North Carolina affected by Helene
Over the past week, Acadian Ambulance Services have been in parts of North Carolina providing assistance to those impacted by Helene.
Since Helene made landfall, Acadian has mobilized 30 ambulances and 64 personnel who are assisting local 9-1-1 services in several areas impacted by Helene in North Carolina.
WXXV News 25’s Marco Bitonel had the opportunity to talk to Marc Creswell, the Airmed Program Director for Acadia, whose team is currently in West Jefferson in Ashe County, North Carolina. He expressed to us the sort of devastation which has been seen across the state as well as the type of medical emergencies his team has been responding to.
“In typical disasters, as well as this one, you have special needs patients, patients that need electricity, need cooling, need oxygen, those are some of the most susceptible so we see a lot of that. We also see some traumatic injuries, people are trying to clean up their communities so they get hurt and injured. And of course with the heat and exertion we see some dehydration so we’re just seeing a broad range of things.”
Creswell also mentioned that at this time it is unclear how long Acadian will be helping with relief efforts, but he predicts that with the severe damage that was brought to North Carolina from Helene, Acadian will be providing assistance in affected areas for quite some time.
