Abraham Lincoln visits local elementary schools

Jackson County Superintendent John Strycker surprised the students at St. Martin East Elementary School by dressing up as the former president they’ve been learning about: Abraham Lincoln.

As Lincoln walked through the doors of classrooms at St. Martin East, children’s faces lit up. They immediately started identifying Lincoln by his beard and top hat.

The kids learned to identify the former president on the penny and the $5 bill.

Dr. Strycker tells News 25 he loves making a connection with the children and showing them history lives on. “With state and federal testing, we seem to get away from traditional history, that I think is very important because history can repeat itself. So, to bring to the little ones a little bit of old-fashioned history.  The five-dollar bill is Lincoln and the penny is Lincoln so they can tie things together and again that’s important for them to know that history.”

Dr. Strycker visited three other lower elementary classrooms in Jackson County dressed as President Lincoln.
