Abortion restrictions head to the full House
The State House Committee is seeking new abortion restrictions.
They passed a bill today that would restrict the reasons women may seek abortion including race, sex, or genetic abnormality with the fetus. The only exception would be the case of a medical emergency.
As of February, nine states have banned abortion based on the sex, two have banned it based on race, and two have banned it when the fetus might have a genetic anomaly.
House Bill 1295 moves to the full House for more debate.
Anyone who performs an abortion because of race, sex, or genetic abnormality could face one to ten years in prison.
The woman having the abortion would not face penalties.
