A successful weekend for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Open in Biloxi!

Some of the best talent that the sport of volleyball has to offer was right here on the Mississippi Coast all weekend long! The Mississippi Gulf coast Open is a premier two-day indoor volleyball tournament hosted by MPV Events taking place at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center. 

The tournament officially kicked off during a weekend in 2019 with about 80 teams, and now in 2025 the open has 264 teams with age groups split between two weekends. The only two tournaments bigger in the south take place in Dallas and Houston, making the local sports commission name this a marquee event due to the large economic impact it has on the coast.

Not only does the tournament provide intense competition for the girls, but kicked off with a recruiting showcase with over 10 collegiate programs in attendance.

“The growth has been phenomenal,” said Matrix Owner Rick Rechtien.  “We had a college clinic showcase last night with a lot of college coaches coming and looking at the girls, talking to them and getting their names and offers, so it’s really exciting.”
